Scott Brown Launches Campaign for Senate in New Hampshire

Scott Brown has officially announced his run for the Senate seat in New Hampshire, aiming to secure a better future for American families. In a video shared widely, he expressed his concern for the future of America, especially for his grandchildren, stating, “My life was an American story, but I’m worried about how America will look.”

Brown, a former senator from Massachusetts, previously ran for the Senate in New Hampshire in 2014 and served as the U.S. ambassador to New Zealand during Donald Trump’s presidency. He is positioning himself as the first significant Republican candidate in the race to unseat long-serving Democrat Jeanne Shaheen in 2026.

This race is anticipated to be competitive and costly, with Republicans focusing on flipping seats from Democrat to Republican in key states like New Hampshire, Georgia, and Michigan to extend their 53-47 majority.

While Republicans currently control New Hampshire’s government, the state has seen an all-Democratic congressional delegation for nearly a decade. During an interview, Brown criticized the current representation, suggesting they have disconnected from New Hampshire’s values and, perhaps, asserting, “I think we could do better.”

In his campaign video, he targeted former President Joe Biden and Congressman Chris Pappas, attributing rising inflation and crime to Biden’s policies and asserting that Pappas has aligned with these approaches. Brown emphasized, “Now is the time for change.”

In preparation for his campaign, he met with GOP leaders, including National Republican Senate Committee Chairman Tim Scott. Demonstrating unwavering support for Trump, he stated, “I love his support,” and praised the decisions made during Trump’s presidency, particularly referencing a recent military strike against Iran.

On the other hand, New Hampshire Democrats quickly criticized Brown, dubbing him “Trump’s loyalty” and pointing to his record on issues like abortion over the past decade.

While Brown has emerged as a prominent candidate, he is not without competition. Other potential Republican contenders include businessman and attorney Phil Taub, State Senator Dan Innis, and businessman Walter MacFarlane.

Brown first made headlines in 2010 when he became the first Republican to win a Senate seat in Massachusetts since Ted Kennedy. Following a loss to Elizabeth Warren in 2012, he shifted his focus to New Hampshire, where his family has roots. He ran again for Senate in 2014 but lost to Shaheen.

Aside from political endeavors, Brown has engaged in community events, supporting various GOP candidates during the 2024 cycle. As he prepares for this campaign, he emphasizes the chance to meet with more individuals than he could in his prior bid, noting, “It’s different from when I ran before.” At 65, he stays active, balancing his political aspirations with his passion for music and athletics.
