Scott Hanson discusses potential changes to 'NFL RedZone' on ESPN.

In January, ESPN took control of the NFL Network along with other digital assets, which left fans curious about the future of NFL Red Zone—one of the network’s fan favorites.

Scott Hanson, the host of “NFL Red Zone,” mentioned that ESPN plans to keep major changes at bay. “There’s good news on that front,” he noted in a recent conversation.

Hanson pointed out the enthusiasm that the folks at Disney and ESPN share for Red Zone, stating, “They don’t want to see it change.” He emphasized that his colleagues at ESPN, whether they work NFL Sundays or not, enjoy watching Red Zone at home. They’ve recognized the show’s value, especially after 17 seasons of engaging viewers.

Hanson expressed confidence that any adjustments made would be thoughtful, aimed at enhancing the viewing experience rather than altering its core appeal. “The changes we implement will focus on adding value or improving the show because, honestly, we’re fans too,” he explained.

When it comes to the viewing experience, Hanson hopes for an entertaining yet informative presentation. He believes in treating others how he’d like to be treated, saying, “I want my broadcasting friends to present the game in the best way possible. We’re all in this together.” He reassured viewers not to expect sweeping changes right away.

As the show prepares for its 18th season this fall, ESPN announced that it would distribute NFL RedZone to cable and satellite providers. Although ESPN has acquired RedZone, the NFL will still handle its ownership and operations. Interestingly, this deal opens up possibilities for adaptations of the RedZone concept for other sports like college football and basketball.
