Republican Strategist Challenges CNN Hosts on Tax Plan Discussion
On Sunday, Republican strategist Scott Jennings confronted CNN’s Omar Jimines and Democratic strategist Maria Cardona regarding New York City Democratic candidate Zoran Mamdani’s tax proposal. Mamdani has suggested raising taxes in predominantly white neighborhoods as part of his campaign to secure a nomination against current mayor Eric Adams.
Jennings criticized Jimines for his remarks labeling the 2020 riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as “almost peaceful.” He emphasized concerns over safety in Manhattan, especially after the New York Police Department had been urged to withdraw its presence. Jennings remarked, “No one can walk in Manhattan,” pointing to various incidents affecting public security.
During the heated discussion, Jimines seemed to shift focus as Jennings pressed the issue. Jennings reminded Jimines of Mamdani’s earlier support for a refund of the NYPD budget, although Mamdani has since stated that reform is his primary objective.
As the exchange continued, Cardona interrupted, disputing Jennings’ interpretation of Mamdani’s statements. “He literally wrote it down! Are you letting him off the hook?” she exclaimed, while Jennings insisted that Mamdani’s statements were indeed based on race.
Jennings later shared screenshots from Mamdani’s campaign site, which highlighted his focus on “whiter neighborhoods,” further escalating the debate. He referenced articles from various publications that covered Mamdani’s contentious approach to taxation in specific urban areas.
