Former Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday on MSNBC's “The ReidOut” that the Supreme Court's “legitimacy” is at stake, depending on how it decides cases involving former President Donald Trump. He said that
Anchor Joy Reid talks about how Trump's lawyers are asking the Supreme Court to rule that he is fit to serve as president in his appeal of a ruling barring him from Colorado's primary ballot. He said: Because if you read the Supreme Court filing that Donald Trump filed today, that should be absurd. ”
Holder said, “There is no basis for his claims, even in this ultra-conservative super-majority Supreme Court. The legitimacy of the court is at stake here, and no matter how the court operates. “I think it depends on how the body is viewed by the American public.”
He added: “Ruling in favor of the Trump campaign and claiming there is merit in these five claims by Mr. Trump really jeopardizes how the court is viewed by the American people. It will be,” he added. Again, there is no constitutional basis and no historical precedent. That's not how our country was formed or how the American Revolution actually took place. Anyone who lines up in support of this is truly endangering our democracy and saying we are one person, one vote, things are decided by the people and no one is above the law. I think it actually jeopardizes the concept of not being. It would endanger the entire concept of the rule of law. ”
