The third cause of action in Mr. Dickerson-Neal’s lawsuit alleges claims under New York State’s Victims of Human Trafficking Assistance Act (VHTL). His lawyers argue that VHTL went into effect on November 1, 2007, nearly 16 years after the sexual assault allegations.
Dickerson-Neal’s claims were filed against Combs, his group Bad Boy Entertainment Group, Bad Boy Records, and Combs Enterprises.

His lawyers presented evidence from the New York State Department’s Corporation Division showing that Mr. Combs founded Bad Boy Entertainment Holdings, Inc. in 1992, a year after the incident occurred.

A similar form was provided to Combs Enterprises, LLC., which lists the company’s original filing date as November 17, 2004.
Diddy’s team also invoked the recent ruling in another New York case in which Steven Tyler was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 1975.
Jeanne Bellino originally filed a lawsuit against the Aerosmith singer under the Gender-Motivated Violence Victim Protection Act, which extends the statute of limitations for sexual abuse victims by two years.

Bellino’s lawsuit comes after a judge ruled that the alleged incident did not present a “substantial risk of physical injury” and was not legally sufficient to bring a lawsuit. It was rejected in February.
Last month, Diddy’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami were searched by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officials in connection with a federal human trafficking investigation. It is unclear whether Combs is the subject of a federal investigation.
