Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to be released earlier as prison officials revise schedule

Prosecutors have dropped charges of arson, kidnapping, and sex trafficking in the racketeering case.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Release Date Moved Again

Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to have his release date pushed forward once more, marking the fifth change since his conviction in October 2025 for two counts concerning transportation for prostitution.

Combs received a sentence of 50 months in prison and a hefty fine of $500,000 but avoided additional felony charges, such as racketeering and two counts of sex trafficking. His original release date was slated for May 8, 2028, but that shifted to June 4, 2028.

The latest adjustment continues a trend that started after his indictment. Earlier this year, the Federal Bureau of Prisons altered his release date first to April 25, 2028, then to April 15, 2028. As of Tuesday, he is now expected to be released on February 23, 2028.

Though the FBOP hasn’t provided specifics about this recent update, reports suggest that the 56-year-old attended a rehabilitation program for substance abuse while at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.

Despite the changing timeline, Combs is still contesting his conviction. His defense maintains that the prosecution aimed to criminalize his private life, even while acknowledging his history of violence.

Prosecutors pointed out in a court filing, “According to Combs, the district court should have turned a blind eye to his abusive conduct, including how he committed Mann Act violations and violently beat, threatened, lied and drugged his victims.”

In December 2025, Combs’ legal team officially appealed both his conviction and sentence. They argued that the sexual encounter in question was consensual and that the penalty he received was overly harsh.

This appeal is currently pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, meaning that his legal struggles are far from over, even as his release date keeps changing.

Combs was initially arrested in September 2024 and faced charges that included racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, as well as transportation for prostitution.
