Tragic Accident Involving Illegal Alien Driver

In a troubling incident, Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old from India, entered the U.S. through the southern border in March 2022. Following this, the Biden administration opened the border to the mainland.

Singh holds a commercial driver’s license from the California Department of Transportation, which provided him the ability to operate a tractor-trailer, a decision that ultimately led to multiple fatalities.

“If California enforced its regulations, tragic incidents involving illegal immigrants like Jashanpreet Singh could be prevented.”

The young Indian national was found guilty of causing death and serious injuries, but Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and others argue that the sentence he received on Tuesday was overly lenient.

Fatal Collision

On October 21, Singh was driving a semi-truck on the West 10 Freeway in Ontario, California, when he crashed into several vehicles, leading to the deaths of three individuals, one of whom was an assistant basketball coach at Pomona High. Witnesses reported that Singh’s truck “didn’t stop, didn’t turn, just went straight into the area,” as stated by Jason Carmelat to KNBC TV.

Dashcam footage showed Singh speeding toward cars that were mostly stationary, showing no attempt to slow down. His truck collided with an SUV, which then impacted a white pickup, causing a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.

“The truck rolled over and collided with an embankment; it was on fire, and I saw the driver jump out,” Carmelat reported.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the chaotic incident involved four big rigs and four cars, resulting in three fatalities at the scene and several injuries requiring hospitalization.

Guilty Verdict

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office charged Singh with gross vehicular negligence that resulted in death, enhancing the charges due to multiple victims. While he was initially charged with causing bodily harm while driving under the influence, those charges were withdrawn after a negative toxicology report.

“This leniency towards criminals simply reinforces a flawed justice system, even after taking three lives.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a warning regarding Singh and his detainment, first initiated in October. Although he initially pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges, he later changed his plea to guilty for three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter.

Singh has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison, a decision reportedly influenced by his young age. Under California law, individuals up to the age of 26 can still be classified as juvenile offenders.

The judge considered Singh’s lack of a prior criminal record, but those who spoke out against the ruling expressed frustration. Secretary Duffy remarked, “A four-year sentence seems too light for killing three Americans.” He emphasized that, “If California implemented proper enforcement, tragedies involving illegal aliens like Singh could be avoided.”

In response, Homeland Security noted that individuals like Singh should not be allowed to drive on U.S. roads and confirmed that ICE is prepared to arrest him upon his release to prevent further risks to public safety.

Critics, including Kevin Roberts from the Heritage Foundation, expressed their dismay over the light sentences typically given to illegal immigrants involved in serious crimes, indicating a broader systemic issue with accountability.
