Search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 to Restart

The Malaysian government announced that the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 will start up again on December 30. This comes over ten years after the plane vanished over the Indian Ocean, an event shrouded in mystery.

According to officials, Ocean Infinity, a marine robotics firm from Texas, is set to conduct a 55-day deep-sea search in the southern Indian Ocean by the end of this month. This was reported by the Associated Press.

Flight MH370, a Boeing 777, took off from Kuala Lumpur heading to Beijing on March 8, 2014. It disappeared just 90 seconds after leaving Malaysian airspace, taking all 239 people on board with it. This incident became one of aviation’s biggest enigmas.

Satellite data indicates that the plane likely veered off course, heading south toward a remote area of the Indian Ocean before crashing.

Malaysia’s Commitment to Closure

In a statement, the Malaysian Transport Ministry mentioned that Ocean Infinity will concentrate on areas deemed most probable for locating the missing aircraft. “This move shows our commitment to giving closure to the families impacted by this tragedy,” the ministry emphasized.

After granting Ocean Infinity permission to embark on this search in March, the Malaysian government agreed to a “no-find, no-fee” arrangement. This means that the company could earn a reward of $70 million—only if they find the wreckage within a designated 5,800-square-mile area.

Previous Searching Efforts

While debris from the aircraft has been discovered along the East African coast and on various islands in the Indian Ocean, previous multinational searches have not yielded any definitive clues about the aircraft’s location.

Ocean Infinity had already attempted a private search in 2018, which also turned up empty. However, CEO Oliver Plunkett mentioned earlier this year that the company has since upgraded its technology, adding a glimmer of hope to future efforts.

In conclusion, as the search draws nearer, many wonder if this new effort will finally bring some answers to the families of those who vanished. It’s a complex situation, full of lingering questions.
