Manhunt Underway After Inmates Escape in Louisiana
A significant manhunt was initiated in Louisiana following the escape of 11 inmates from the Orleans Parish prison. As of now, two of them have been apprehended, leaving nine still at large.
On Friday, the Orleans Justice Center was placed on lockdown after the news broke that the inmates had fled. The two captured inmates were the last to leave the facility.
As reported by WGNO, a local affiliate, authorities discovered the inmates were missing around 8:30 AM local time. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with other state law enforcement agencies, is actively pursuing the remaining escapees.

By about 11:30 AM, Miles, who is 20 years old, had been captured alongside another fugitive whose identity is still under wraps.
The Louisiana State Police announced on Twitter that they had located and arrested Kendall Miles in the French Quarter after a brief foot chase.
Sheriff Susan Hutson appealed to the public to stay vigilant, emphasizing the collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies on the search operation.
New Orleans Police Principal Anne Kirkpatrick indicated that the manner of escape was still unclear.
“We don’t want to incite panic, but we urge people to stay cautious,” she remarked to reporters.
The sheriff described the situation as “very serious and unacceptable,” indicating a thorough investigation would follow. This includes scrutinizing facility protocols, employee performance, and security measures.
Hutson also stated that anyone who aided in the prisoners’ escape would be held accountable. Although the prison remains on lockdown, staff and security are being reviewed thoroughly.
