Chester Barrett and his son Aaron were sailing on their 34-foot scallop boat, Sudden Impact, on Saturday when they encountered bad weather and did not return to port. Main News Center reported.

The two left Cobscook Bay State Park around 5 a.m. Saturday and went out to sea, but did not return by 5 p.m.

Concerned, the family called the Coast Guard, and about two hours later a multi-agency search began.

The men had apparently planned to evacuate to Cutler as weather conditions worsened, but it quickly became “unreachable,” according to the Maine Department of Marine Resources.

The search was suspended late Saturday due to poor visibility, but resumed on Sunday, with agencies including the Maine Marine Patrol, Canadian Court Guard and Maine Forest Service taking part, as well as rescue boats and aircraft, the newspaper reported. Ta.
