Seattle minimum wage hike forces queer waffle shop owner to shut down business: ‘I’ve cried every day’

A self-identified queer business owner in West Seattle says he has to close his waffle shop because of the far-left city's minimum wage hike.

Corinna Luckenbach told KCPQ-TV. Wage hikes, along with rising costs due to inflation, spelled doom for Bebop Waffle Shop, which had been open for more than a decade. The City of Seattle has raised the minimum wage to $20.76 for all employees in the city, regardless of business size.

“I think the hardest thing about closing for me, especially after the election, is taking away a safe space from people.”

“This no longer makes financial sense because, for me personally, the price increase is going to cost me an extra $32,000 a year,” Luckenbach said. “I cried every day.”

She supports higher wages in theory, but says the reality is that her business can't stand it.

“I think the hardest thing for me to close, especially after the election, is to take away a safe space from people,” Luckenbach continued. “I never knew what it meant for people to come and feel safe and feel welcome. I never knew how much of an impact I was having on people. And It was really beautiful and wonderful to know that.”

Luckenbach said of her: Website She claimed to be “queer” and named her dog Waffle House after her dog, who passed away in 2019.

Notice of closing of waffle shop differentiated A debate erupted in the comments section about whether calling an area “walkable” is ableism against people who can't walk.
