Second lady Usha Vance to travel to Greenland to ‘learn about heritage,’ attend national dogsled race

Second Lady Ushavance heads to Greenland to learn about the territorial heritage and follows President Trump's insistence that the United States should win it.

Vance will travel to Greenland on Thursday with her son and a US delegation, her office announcement.

During the visit, the second lady will “visit historic sites, learn about Greenland's heritage and participate in the Avannata Qimussus, a race for Greenland's national dog species.”

“Mr. Vance and the delegation are excited to witness this monumental race and celebrate Greenland's culture and unity,” her office said.

The race features around 37 mashers and 444 dogs, offering an “amazing display of speed, skill and teamwork.”

Her visit could be controversial after Trump has argued for months that the US should win Greenland.

Greenland Prime Minister Moote Brupp Egede has pointedly criticised Trump for his proposal, noting that “Greenland belongs to us.”

The island is a territory owned by Denmark.

Trump doubled his plan to acquire Greenland, claiming it was necessary for national security purposes. That's the land he said the United States gets “in some way.”

Vance's visit will be second on top Trump's top ally.

Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. visited Greenland in early January to “shoot fun video content for the podcast.”
