US Secret Service officials shot a man near the White House on Sunday following a “armed conflict with law enforcement,” a spokesman said in a statement.
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the “adult man” was taken to a community hospital and “his condition is unknown” earlier Sunday.
Grielmi added, the secret service representative has not reported any injuries.
The incident happened just after midnight Sunday hours after local police shared information with the Secret Service about “suicides who may travel from Indiana to Washington, D.C.”.
Grielmi said Secret Service members found a parked vehicle near 17th and F Street near the White House, and identified an individual on foot “conforming to the descriptions nearby.”
“As the officers approached, individuals wore firearms around and armed conflicts continued, during which time they were fired by our staff,” according to a statement shared by Gullielmi.
Grielmi said local police are investigating the incident according to all shooting protocols involving district law enforcement officials.
