Water Main Break Floods Streets in West Hollywood
A significant water main break caused extensive flooding in West Hollywood early Thursday morning. The incident started around 3 a.m., as reported by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The break occurred at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive, quickly impacting Santa Monica Boulevard as well. Residents were seen venturing outside to gauge the damage, with some attempting to navigate through the fast-moving water on foot and others trying to drive through it.
Currently, several roads in the affected area are closed. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has urged drivers to steer clear of the vicinity while emergency crews address the situation. Streets that are closed include:
- Sunset Boulevard, eastbound, between Larrabee Street and Sherborn Drive.
- Holloway Drive, eastbound, between Sunset Boulevard and Westmount Drive.
- Santa Monica Boulevard, eastbound, between San Vicente Boulevard and Hancock Drive.
- Larrabee Street, Palm Avenue, Hancock Avenue, in both directions, between Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard.
According to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, crews are actively working to halt the flow of water. They are methodically closing large underground valves to stop the leak and assess any damage, doing so carefully to prevent additional issues due to the high water pressure.
It’s also worth noting that a sinkhole emerged shortly after the main break, reportedly causing two individuals to fall in.
