See the most popular beer in your state, according to new study

America loves beer.

From IPA to lager, American beer preferences vary by region and state, but one brand appears to stand out from the others.

In a recent study by Coffeeness, a German coffee-focused website that publishes research related to drinks, analysts have compiled a ranking of the most popular beers in each state.

“Our analysis reveals some surprising patterns and confirms many long-standing assumptions,” according to the study. (coffeeness)

Using data from YouGov’s popularity ratings and Google’s search data, this study provides a “comprehensive picture” of American beer preferences.

“Our analysis reveals some surprising patterns and confirms many long-standing assumptions,” the study states.

Miller is America’s favorite brand, ranked as the most searched beer in 30 states, accounting for 60% of the country. Miller ranked the best in the best states on both coasts, from Washington to Maine, plus Alaska and Hawaii.

“The broad appeal of Miller can be attributed to its accessibility, consistent flavor profile and the presence of strong marketing,” Coffeeness writes in this study.

Coors ranks second in eight states, including Arizona, California and Texas.

Three states, Georgia, New Jersey and South Carolina, put Guinness at the top of the list.

Despite the large advertising campaign, Budweiser and Bud Light searched for four states together.

“The 2023 controversy over Bad Light may have had something to do with this,” according to the survey.

Budweiser was the top choice in Missouri and New Hampshire, while North Carolina and Ohio preferred Budlight. (Anheuser-Busch, which owns Budweiser and Bud Light, is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri.)

Several other brands are the biggest choices in only one or two states, reflecting their localized popularity.

“This suggests that Coloradan might appreciate the more craft-oriented offering from the local brewing giant,” writes Coffeeness.

“The relationship between beach relaxation and lime garnished refreshment may resonate with the residents of coastal Connecticut,” the researchers said.
