Humanoid Robot Appears at White House Event with Melania Trump
During a technology event on Wednesday, a humanoid robot walked alongside First Lady Melania Trump at the White House, creating quite a stir. As Melania entered the East Room to give a speech to representatives from 45 countries and 28 tech firms at the Global Future Together Summit, the robot made its appearance, moving stiffly down the hallway.
It took a moment to wave to the audience before gradually retreating into the background as the event commenced. “It’s fair to say you’re my first American-made humanoid guest to the White House,” Melania remarked.
The robot, called Figure 03, also participated briefly in the roundtable discussions, greeting attendees in their native languages. Notably, this summit represented the first occasion where a first lady hosted the spouses of world leaders from 45 countries in a single day, as noted by the White House. Countries represented included France, Israel, Nigeria, Lithuania, and Poland.
According to the White House, the event featured numerous technology companies such as Meta, Palantir, Google, and Microsoft. The primary aim was to explore how technology and education can enhance children’s lives while addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI). Melania had originally introduced this initiative at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
“Our world is changing, and the use of AI gives us access to centuries of human knowledge,” Melania stated. “We have a duty to ensure that our children become the most technologically savvy and educated generation in the world, which will help secure America’s long-term economic edge.”
The previous day’s meeting was centered on AI in classrooms, digital literacy, online safety, and educational technology tools. The following discussion focused on mitigating technology’s potential misuse, particularly in the realm of deepfakes—where AI mimics real people.
