Actress Selma Blair had a disruptive episode on a Delta Airlines flight headed to JFK over the weekend, reportedly striking one flight attendant, biting another, and attempting to open the plane’s door, according to authorities.
The “Cruel Intentions” actress was ultimately restrained during the flight from Los Angeles and was taken by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital after the plane landed in Queens. Accounts indicate she kicked a police officer in the head and confronted a nurse during the transport.
Police reported that the two flight attendants she allegedly assaulted suffered significant injuries, with one needing hospitalization.
Blair, 54, who has faced challenges with multiple sclerosis for years, was charged by federal authorities for the assault on the flight attendants, as well as by state officials for the incidents involving the police officer and the hospital nurse.
Her representative stated, “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.”
After landing, Blair received prompt medical care and is said to be in stable condition.
Beyond her well-known roles in films like “Legally Blonde” and “Hellboy,” Blair has faced career setbacks due to a controversial anti-Islamic post on Instagram in 2024.
She has previously faced criticism for erratic behavior and, in her 2022 memoir titled “Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up,” she admitted to having bitten several celebrities over the years, including Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and Seth MacFarlane.
This isn’t Blair’s first airline incident; reports indicate a similar outburst occurred in 2016, where she had to be removed from a flight on a stretcher.
Blair takes medication for her MS symptoms and has been candid about her struggle with the disease, which she has lived with since childhood and was officially diagnosed with nearly eight years ago.
The Port Authority Police, responsible for airport security, released a statement regarding the incident, noting, “At approximately 11pm at JFK Airport, PAPD responded to a call about a physically abusive passenger aboard Delta Airlines flight 938, which was parked at the gate after arriving from LAX.”
They identified the suspect as Selma Blair, age 54, who was taken into custody and transported for evaluation. Two flight attendants reported injuries, and one was sent to the hospital for further assessment. The FBI is investigating the situation.
