Sen. John Fetterman parts ways with Democrats regarding the Maduro situation in Venezuela

Sen. John Fetterman Praises U.S. Military Operation Against Maduro

Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, has diverged from the party line by commending the U.S. military operation that led to the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. He noted that there was once a consensus among Americans, regardless of their political affiliations, that Maduro had to be removed from power.

“I don’t know why we can’t just admit that this was a good thing,” Fetterman expressed on “Fox & Friends.” He continued, “We all wanted this guy to be gone, and now he’s gone. I think we should really appreciate what happened here.”

Fetterman explained that Maduro wasn’t killed or made to vanish; he was arrested in the United States to face trial, calling the operation “proper and surgical.”

He pointed out that the Biden administration had raised the reward for information leading to Maduro’s capture from $15 million to $25 million shortly before Biden left office. This figure was later increased to $50 million in August 2025.

Fetterman emphasized the plight of millions of Venezuelans who have been displaced, many of whom celebrated upon hearing the news of Maduro’s arrest. He highlighted the “chaos and suffering that Maduro has brought to Venezuela.”

However, many within the Democratic Party are not on board with Fetterman’s viewpoint. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the military operation, cautioning that even though Maduro is an illegitimate ruler, initiating military action without Congressional approval and a clear post-operation plan would be reckless. He claimed to have received assurances that the Trump administration did not aim to change the regime or engage in military intervention in Venezuela.

Schumer urged for an immediate briefing from Congress regarding future plans, asserting that the president’s actions could serve as a distraction from pressing issues affecting American citizens.

While acknowledging that his stance differs from some of his fellow Democrats, Fetterman reiterated, “I want to remind everyone that America is a force for order and democracy, and we promote these values. We are good people.”
