Fetterman Shares Recovery Photos After Hospitalization
Senator John Fetterman recently posted graphic photos of his recovery after being hospitalized with facial injuries. This occurred just two days following a fall near his home in Pennsylvania that was linked to a flare-up of ventricular fibrillation.
On November 15, Fetterman shared a close-up selfie on social media showing a stitched wound on his cheek, casually holding an iced coffee, and remarked, “After 20 stitches and a full recovery, I’m back home.” He expressed gratitude to the UPMC doctors who treated him and thanked everyone for their well-wishes.
A spokesperson explained that Fetterman fell while on a morning walk in Braddock, experiencing dizziness before hitting his face. Doctors concluded the fall was due to an irregular heart rhythm that can cause sudden balance loss.
After staying at UPMC for monitoring and medication adjustments, Fetterman was discharged and returned home to recover with his family. He humorously addressed the incident, saying, “If you thought I looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”
The selfie gained attention on social media, drawing empathy and political commentary, while also renewing focus on Fetterman’s health issues, especially after his stroke during the 2022 Senate race.
This incident comes as Fetterman diverged from most Democrats by voting with Republicans to reopen the federal government. He has been vocal in the ongoing discussions about the government shutdown.
With lawmakers facing various health challenges lately, there’s been increased scrutiny around medical transparency in Congress. Fetterman believes that sharing his recovery experiences can help make conversations about health more commonplace in public life.
He concluded his post with a light note, promising, “See you in Washington, DC.”
