Sen. Kennedy Criticizes Federal Response to Los Angeles Protests
Senator John Kennedy has expressed his concerns regarding federal intervention in the unrest occurring in Los Angeles, particularly tied to anti-ICE protests. He likened the situation to a battle between “sheep” and “wolves,” emphasizing that the public needs to take control of what he views as a deteriorating situation in the state.
During an appearance on “American Newsroom,” Kennedy suggested that those on the left might need to calm down, proposing a “Zoloft” remedy for their anxieties. He believes the issue isn’t complex; there’s a noticeable problem with violence in Los Angeles, which he labeled not as peaceful protesting but as destructive actions by those he called “wolves.”
Republicans in Louisiana have joined him in criticizing California’s Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for their handling of the protests.
Kennedy remarked that many Americans wish for decisive governmental action to restore order, suggesting that the federal government sending troops reflects this need. He mentioned that the previous night was an improvement and expressed hope for continued betterment.
In response, Newsom’s office contended that the protests had not reached a level deserving of the term “riot.” The Governor’s communications director humorously referenced past antics during sporting events, implying that the current unrest was being exaggerated.
Moreover, Newsom’s office announced plans to sue the Trump administration, alleging an “illegal takeover” of the California State Guard. They accused the President of overstepping his authority, claiming that he is exploiting a crisis to assume control of state resources.
In a statement, Mayor Bass called the deployment of National Guards a “chaotic escalation,” expressing genuine concern for the safety of the community and urging for peace among protesters.
Some Democrats have criticized the administration’s approach as an infringement on freedoms and democratic rights. For instance, Senator John Fetterman expressed discontent on social media, stating that such actions undermine essential values associated with peaceful demonstrations.
