Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D) on Wednesday interrupted Sen. John Kennedy (R-Louisiana), who emphasized the horrors of abortion procedures.
During the Senate Budget Committee hearing Kennedy clashed with Caitlin Myers, an economics professor at Middlebury College, over the “economic harm of restricting reproductive freedom.”
In their exchange, Myers agreed with the phrase, “Reproductive justice is economic justice.” This is far-left terminology promoting the supposed economic emancipation of access to abortion. Myers later refused to refer to the fetus as a “baby,” but ultimately acknowledged that abortion ends the fetus’ life.
After the scuffle, President Kennedy showed a photo of a fetus at 21 weeks of pregnancy and observed that the fetus was “quite developed” and could “feel pain.”
Then Kennedy, with the help of Leslie Ford, a witness called by Republicans to the hearing, began to explain in terrifying detail the abortion process known as the dilation and evacuation procedure.
“First the doctor dilates the cervix, then uses something called a couch clamp, which is actually a pair of pliers with sharp teeth on the end. The doctor then doesn’t give the baby any painkillers. And then it goes through the vagina, through the uterus, and starts tearing the baby apart, right?” Kennedy said.
“and [the doctor] “She might pull it out of the leg first, then pull it out of the arm, right?” he continued, “and then she might go to the heart or the spine and pull the baby out piece by piece. Right? Give the baby painkillers. Without giving it?”
“That’s the procedure as I understand it,” Ford asserted.
“Okay, but then you have to bring the head out. The baby is dead. Maybe it’s not. It may still hurt, but then you have to bring the head out. Even if it’s open, you’ve got to take the head out, which is difficult,” Kennedy said. “So the doctor comes in and uses her pliers to crush the baby’s head, right? Then she pulls her head out – takes out the crushed skull, right?”
“As far as I know,” Ford admitted.
It was at that point that the White House interrupted Kennedy and insisted that his speaking time had ended. Kennedy countered that the others exceeded their allotted time. But the White House was undeterred and convened the next set of senators.
“I’m sorry you don’t want to hear what happens in an actual abortion, but I thought we were here to talk about it,” Kennedy protested.
