The Senate is moving forward with plans to pass its own continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown.

On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced he would move to halt consideration of the bipartisan continuing resolution to allow the Senate to act if House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) does not come up with a passable proposal.
The Democratic move means procedural votes could begin as early as Monday.
Senators from both parties are calling for a clear stopgap measure that does not include the SAVE Act, like the bill that failed in the House.
Schumer also argued that the shutdown motion would give the Senate “maximum flexibility” to block a shutdown before October 1.st deadline.
