Jasmine Crockett Enters Senate Race Amid Light-Hearted Critique
Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett has officially announced her candidacy for the Senate, sparking a response from Louisiana Republican Senator John Kennedy, who shared some light-hearted views on the rising Democratic figure.
Crockett’s announcement, which came in early December, follows her colleague Colin Allred’s decision to pursue a House seat rather than join the Senate race. Heading into the Democratic primary for the 2026 election, she is likely to face off against Congressman James Talarico.
“She’s wrong on every issue,” Kennedy remarked, offering a candid perspective on Crockett’s political stance.
While many Democrats view Crockett as a promising figure, Kennedy took the opportunity to provide some tongue-in-cheek advice to his counterparts. He stated, “We all have the right to express our opinions.” He emphasized the importance of lawmakers freely articulating their thoughts.
“But I have the right to mine,” he added. “And someone needs to tell the congressman that it would be in her best interest, that the voices in her head aren’t real.”
Kennedy also pointed out that Crockett’s progressive ideas might not resonate in a predominantly red state like Texas. “The people of Texas will never accept her message,” he continued, reflecting on what he believes is a questionable strategy for her campaign. “I don’t know why she would do this, but America has the right to do stupid things if it wants to.”
Interestingly, Crockett does seem to hold a substantial chance in the upcoming Democratic primary. One poll indicates that she leads Talarico by about 8 points. While her prospects within her party look promising, polling against Republican candidates shows a more challenging landscape. For instance, current figures show Senator John Cornyn leading Crockett by six points, a gap that tightens if she faces Republican Ken Paxton, where the advantage is just two points.
