Ukrainian Drone Strike in Russia Results in Casualties
(AP) – A drone strike from Ukraine has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to 51 others in Russia, according to Russian authorities on Saturday.
Ukraine’s military persists in its air assaults on energy and military sites within Russia, aiming to weaken Moscow’s war efforts and, perhaps, to make the Russian populace confront the realities of the conflict that has now entered its fifth year.
Reports indicate that two large warehouses owned by the Russian online retailer Wildberry were targeted by Ukrainian drones overnight. One warehouse is situated in Kotovsk, located in the Tambov region, around 360 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, while the other is in Elektrostal, approximately 50 kilometers east of Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy mentioned in a Telegram update that two significant long-range attacks struck “key logistics facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions.”
He noted that these facilities catered to the invaders by supplying necessary parts for drone production and navigation systems. Additionally, there was reported damage to oil facilities.
According to Zelenskiy, Ukrainian special operations also conducted strikes in the Sea of Azov and in contested territories.
Governor of the Tambov region, Evgeny Pervishov, reported that seven workers on the night shift were killed and 25 others injured at the Kotovsk warehouse. Meanwhile, Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov stated that 24 individuals were hurt in Elektrostal.
In Noginsk, which lies just north of Elektrostal, a drone strike ignited an oil depot and injured two additional people, as Vorobyov relayed. He noted that as a precaution, a nearby maternity hospital and a residential building were evacuated.
In the city of Vladimir, around 180 kilometers east of Moscow, a Ukrainian drone reportedly crashed into a residential building, causing a brief fire with no casualties reported, according to Governor Alexander Avdeyev.
Overall, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its air defense systems intercepted 379 Ukrainian drones over the night across 19 Russian regions, including Crimea, the Sea of Azov, and the Black Sea.
