Sean “Diddy” Combs Case Dismissed
A New York Civil Court has dismissed a case against rapper and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs, brought forth by an anonymous complainant known as John Doe.
On Wednesday, Judge Leslie A. Stross ruled to dismiss the allegations of sexual assault, as outlined in legal documents. The court upheld a motion from Diddy’s legal team to fully dismiss the case, stating that “the plaintiff’s claims are prohibited under all liability.”
The judge noted that the case fell under New York’s statute of limitations. The alleged incident took place around 2015, at which point the limit was five years. Although the law was later extended to 2019, the court determined that the plaintiff’s claims were legally “too late,” as the changes could not be applied retroactively.
The court filing claimed that John Doe was assaulted at a party and indicated that this experience adversely impacted his career. Doe stated he had a performance scheduled in 2015 at a Los Angeles nightclub where Combs was present. Reportedly, he consumed a drink, lost consciousness, and later woke up to find Combs allegedly engaging in unwanted sexual contact.
“Aspiring music artist John Doe was invited to perform as the opening act at QC’s 20/20 nightclub in Los Angeles,” the court documents indicate. “During the afterparty, he claims to have received a drink he believes was served by Combs, leading to confusion and unconsciousness. The plaintiff alleges he later became aware of sexual activity involving Combs and woke to find himself subjected to unwanted sexual contact.”
Despite the allegations, the judge found Combs not guilty of any related charges concerning his ex-girlfriend, Kathy Ventura Fine. However, he was convicted of two counts related to prostitution.
Combs is currently being held at Brooklyn’s metropolitan detention center and is awaiting a judgment scheduled for October 3rd.
