Kevin Hart’s recent performance stirred up quite a reaction with his blunt humor, touching on sensitive topics like the deaths of notable figures. Netflix’s roast specials have gained a reputation for delving into uncomfortable subjects, including divorces and loss.
Gillis specifically faced backlash for joking about slavery and lynching, quipping about Hart’s height by saying, “Kevin’s so short he’d have to be lynched from a bonsai tree.” He later acknowledged on his podcast that the joke was probably misfired at that particular gathering, having been well received elsewhere.
Handler, known for her strong liberal views, recently shared her thoughts during an interview on the “Funny Knowing You” podcast. She described certain comedians, including Gillis, as “racist, bigots, sexist,” stating that the racial jokes were “disgusting” and “awful.” Handler expressed her disdain for jokes about lynching, insisting they’re not funny and are worse than rape.
Defending herself against critics, Handler mentioned her confidence at 51 years old, asserting that she’s comfortable with who she is. She reacted defiantly to allegations of promiscuity, stating, “I’m rich, famous, and sexy. That’s why I fuck people.”
Gillis also drew attention for poking fun at Handler’s past involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, jokingly suggesting that she has attended more than a few dinners at his house. He humorously connected it to other high-profile figures, ultimately noting that their gathering wasn’t very large but memorable in its own right.
Handler has previously admitted to visiting Epstein’s home multiple times. In a past appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, she noted that while she had never visited Epstein’s island, she once “accidentally” brought a friend to a dinner party with some controversial guests.
