Shane Lowry loses his temper after unfortunate incident at PGA Championship

Shane Lowry had a rough moment on the eighth hole during the PGA Championship on Friday when his ball landed in a divot. His frustration was palpable.

He didn’t receive any relief for his tee shot that hit the pre-existing divot in the fairway. After taking his next shot, he expressed his irritation quite openly and was seen expressing his feelings—more colorful words were used—after missing a putt for bogey.

Earlier in the tournament, Lowry shot one over on the first 18 holes at Quazul Hollow, leaving him just around the cut line. His birdie on the eighth hole during his second round was a highlight, but after not scoring well on the following three holes, he managed to bounce back and net another birdie on the 12th.

Despite the troubles on the course, Lowry, known for his occasional outbursts, struggled with his temper on at least one hole.

After landing his initial shot, he had a brief conversation with the Rules officials but found that the heavy rains earlier in the week had muddled the situation, leaving no room for adjustments as he continued his game.

During the broadcast, there was a moment when he hit the ground with his club, and the camera caught him showing his frustration with a middle finger gesture after completing the hole.

On a positive note, Lowry was among the top golfers, shooting 1 under par during the second round and positioning himself to potentially chase his first major title.

In speaking to reporters afterward, Lowry reflected, “This is what we work so hard for. You put in so many hours for this chance. I haven’t always succeeded, but who knows what could happen in the future?”

He added, “You just have to press on, keep your head down, and work hard. You never know when things might take a turn. Competing in these big events is always a part of it.”
