This is not something the Rays wanted to see and see the first day within a week.
Ace Shane McClanahan finished his start after appearing to have hurt the pitching arm at the top of three innings during a spring training game with the Red Sox on Saturday.
After undergoing Tommy John's surgery, McClanahan, who missed everything from last season, made three strikeouts in two innings before throwing the pitch to Christian Campbell, quickly signaling the dugout and came out on the mound before moving up and down in apparent pain.
The 27-year-old then finished his start with what the rays call tension in his left triceps.
If injuries are important, it will hit a big blow to the 2025 team's chances.
McClanahan was expected to win the ball in the opening game against the Rockies at the opener in Tampa Bay on Thursday.
The two-time All-Star has been one of the best southpaws in the game when he's on the field, earning a 3.02 ERA and 456 strikeouts in 404 2/3 career innings.
However, he has not pitched since August 2, 2023 since his last outing before he underwent elbow surgery, the second in his pitching career.
