Shapiro Shares Thoughts on Harris in New Book

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently reflected on the idea of Kamala Harris as vice president in his book, “Where We Keep the Light.” According to Politico Playbook, he felt that it “didn’t seem right” for her to take on that role.

Shapiro mentioned that while he recognized the honor, there was something about it that didn’t sit well with him. He expressed a sense that, though he valued the position, it just wasn’t appropriate somehow.

On the topic of Harris being vetted for a potential running mate in 2024, Shapiro noted that she perceived many of the inquiries as unnecessarily controversial. He suggested that her team didn’t quite grasp where the actual decision-makers in the presidential race were positioned.

Shapiro recalled his conversations about supporting Harris. He said, “If we had differing opinions, I wanted to advocate for my stance. If I couldn’t persuade her, I was ready to fully back her choice,” he wrote in his memoir. However, he observed that Harris seemed quite discontented with her vice presidential role.

In his book, Shapiro mentioned that Harris acknowledged feeling frustrated about various aspects of the job, including a lack of privacy and limited input in decision-making processes. He detailed how, after deciding to withdraw his name from consideration, he was advised against sharing the news directly with her, as it was believed she wouldn’t respond well to bad news.

Ultimately, Harris selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for 2024, but the duo faced a significant loss against Republican contenders like Donald Trump and J.D. Vance.
