7-Eleven Employee Fired After Defending Herself

A female employee at a 7-Eleven in Oklahoma City has lost her job after reportedly shooting a man who attempted to strangle her during a confrontation on November 13th.

According to local reports, the employee, Stephanie Dilliard, declined to accept a fake $100 bill from Kenneth Thompson, 59, prompting an aggressive response. Dilliard detailed the incident to KOKH Fox 25, stating, “He threatened me and said he was going to cut my head off, so I tried to call the police. He started throwing things at me and came behind the counter. I tried to run away, but he grabbed me by the neck with both hands and pushed me out of the counter space, where I pulled out my gun and shot him.”

Even though police classified the encounter as self-defense, Dilliard was contacted by 7-Eleven’s human resources, who stated that she was being terminated for “violating policy.” She later set up a GoFundMe page, explaining her situation: “For more than two years, I worked all night for the same company, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., but my day didn’t end there. While my boyfriend worked blue-collar, I went home to be with my 3-year-old. I was getting an average of three hours of sleep every day.”

Thompson, after being shot, was arrested while receiving medical care for his injuries.

John Comerford, executive director of NRA-ILA, commented, “Law-abiding Americans should not have to choose between survival and keeping their jobs. This incident underscores a troubling reality: gun control policies that disarm responsible citizens only benefit criminals and put everyone at risk.”

A national survey from 2021 estimates that firearms are used for self-defense approximately 1.67 million times each year.

As of now, 7-Eleven has not responded to requests for additional comments regarding the situation.
