Shooting at Evergreen High School Identified Suspect
On Thursday, authorities revealed they have identified the individual behind the shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon at Evergreen High School in Colorado. The incident, which took place around 12:24 PM local time, left two students injured, according to reports from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect has been named as 16-year-old Desmond Holly. This information was shared on social media by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
It was also reported that the shooter died from self-inflicted injuries. Jackie Kelly, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, mentioned on Thursday that the motives of the shooter are still unclear. “We understand the act itself, but we don’t fully grasp the motivation behind it yet,” Kelly stated, referencing the unpredictability of such situations.
Kelly noted that the shooter appeared to have been influenced by a network of extremists. He elaborated, saying, “He had been radicalized, and we are still uncovering details about his mindset.”
Kelly praised the response of students and staff during the chaos, noting their actions likely prevented further tragedy. “They performed admirably, and their quick thinking during the lockdown drill made a substantial difference,” he commented. “While many students were able to escape, some felt trapped but managed to support each other.”
Tracey Doland, the superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools, expressed her thoughts in a statement that evening. She emphasized the gravity of this incident, remarking that it reopens deep-rooted pain in the community.
