Sheriff Remains Hopeful in Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Case

The sheriff overseeing the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping expressed confidence on Tuesday that the case will see progress, despite the six-month timeline with minimal leads.

On Monday, Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter and a host on Today, made an emotional appeal to the individuals responsible for her mother’s abduction, urging them to “do the right thing.”

“We’ve got a significant amount of DNA evidence to analyze,” said Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos in a statement to NBC. He added, “There are numerous factors to look at regarding video evidence, so I firmly believe we will crack this case.”

He directly encouraged anyone with information to step forward, hoping it might help advance the investigation.

“We’re doing everything we can,” he remarked. “No detail is too small. Just like we are with Savannah today, if you have even a hint of information, we want to hear from you.”

Nanos indicated that labs around the country are collaborating to determine the best methods for examining the evidence to obtain DNA results, as reported by KVOA.

Nancy Guthrie, who is 84, was taken from her Tucson home on February 1st. On Monday, Savannah reiterated her plea to her mother’s kidnappers.

“The world can be harsh and unforgiving. I understand you were aiming to make this right,” she stated in a video titled “Bringing Her Home.”

“I implore you, please do the right thing now,” she added, emotionally appealing for the return of her mother.

“Help me find her,” she urged. “Please tell me where to look. It’s been months since her disappearance. Our family is in distress. We’re living in a continual nightmare.”

Savannah appealed for help in “ending” the family’s suffering.

“It’s for all of us,” she explained. “Regardless of circumstances or choices.” She went on to say, “I believe there’s always a path home. Make the right choices.”

It’s unclear why Savannah chose to make her appeal on social media recently. However, a federal source close to the situation mentioned that Savannah had discussed the video with investigators.

This latest appeal is Savannah’s first in several weeks. Previously, she had tearfully pleaded for any potential information that could assist in resolving the case.

This renewed call for action follows unsettling reports about ransom notes possibly sent by the kidnappers, one of which stated that Nancy Guthrie was deceased.

Days after Nancy disappeared, two notes were reportedly sent. One indicated she was “safe but scared” and demanded a ransom of $4 million in Bitcoin, while another falsely claimed she was dead.

“We can’t find peace,” Savannah expressed after hearing the troubling news. She noted, “This may be a new story today, capturing your attention, but we are alive—my sister, my brother, our families—and we continue to suffer.”

No arrests have been made related to Nancy Guthrie’s case, and her family has announced a $1 million reward for information leading to her return.
