Update on Nancy Guthrie Missing Person’s Case

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department provided an update on the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie on Friday, indicating continued collaboration with the Nancy Guthrie Task Force regarding DNA analysis to further the investigation.

“Earlier this month, investigators went to Florida to consult with lab scientists about potential advancements in the case,” the department stated in a post on X. “Several ideas were discussed, and we’re keeping in touch with all our partners to resolve this matter.”

Authorities reminded the public that even the smallest tip could make a difference. “Any bit of information could be crucial to this investigation,” they emphasized.

Nancy Guthrie’s case: Unclaimed $1.2M reward suggests ‘very small circle’ of suspects, retired FBI agent says

Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC journalist Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1. The 84-year-old was last seen around 10 p.m. on January 31, shortly after a family member dropped her off at her residence in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood.

Despite efforts, authorities have struggled to pinpoint a suspect or person of interest in her disappearance, although a masked man was captured on Guthrie’s Ring doorbell camera.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed in a news briefing shortly after her disappearance that it was indeed a kidnapping. “She did not leave on her own. We know that,” he stated.

Nancy Guthrie investigators see uptick in tips after ransom notes release: Sheriff

Authorities released two ransom notes connected to Guthrie’s kidnapping back in July. The first note, sent on February 2, indicated Guthrie was safe and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency for her release. The second note, sent four days later, claimed she had died shortly after the abduction.

In late July, investigators noted that the ransom notes featured a unique writing style, appealing for anyone who could recognize the patterns to come forward with information.

Late last month, new details emerged as investigators reported being aware of another potential ransom note related to Guthrie’s case. “The PCSD/FBI Guthrie Task Force was recently informed of a new possible ransom note,” the department wrote on X. They are currently evaluating the credibility of this new information.
