Poll Shows Mikie Sherrill Leading Jack Ciattarelli in New Jersey Governor Race

A recent survey indicates that Democrat Mikie Sherrill has a six-point lead over Republican Jack Ciattarelli in the New Jersey gubernatorial election. With just three months left until the election, Sherrill garners 48% support compared to Ciattarelli’s 42%. This upcoming election is being viewed as a strategic aspect for the 2026 midterm elections.

Interestingly, only 32% of those surveyed felt confident about casting their vote for Sherrill, while 31% showed similar confidence in Ciattarelli. This suggests there might still be room for shifts in voter sentiment.

In a related incident, a fighter jet was deployed after a civilian aircraft encroached on airspace designated for Trump in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Polling data, collected between July 18 and 24, revealed that just 1% of voters expressed support for third-party candidates, while 9% remained undecided. Most voters in New Jersey highlighted affordability and taxes as their primary concerns in this race. A notable 53% identified affordability as the key issue, with 43% pointing to taxes.

Among those prioritizing affordability, 36% favored Sherrill, whereas 34% supported Ciattarelli as the candidate best able to address their concerns. When it comes to tax cuts, respondents largely favored Republican candidates, with 50% believing Ciattarelli would do a better job compared to only 15% for Sherrill.

Additionally, voters were split on attitudes toward economic opportunities for families: 54% believed Sherrill could provide them, while 49% felt the same way about Ciattarelli. Protecting Social Security and Medicare emerged as another crucial concern, flagged by 30% of those polled who felt it tied into a broader affordability crisis. A slim majority, 51%, believed Trump’s significant infrastructure bill would negatively impact New Jersey families, while 36% expressed support for it. Other notable issues included Trump’s influence, named by 27% of respondents.

Furthermore, both Trump and incumbent Democrat Governor Phil Murphy received nearly equal approval ratings, at 44% and 45% respectively, according to the polls. Respondents displayed mixed feelings about the state’s difficulties: 37% blamed state leadership, 27% pointed at the federal government, while 34% attributed responsibility to both sides.

Public sentiment suggests voters are looking for a trustworthy leader to manage their financial worries. In the survey, a significant 54% strongly agreed that Republicans lean too much toward Trump, with an additional 12% agreeing to some extent.

Mikie Sherrill, currently serving as a U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 11th District, previously criticized Trump and other figures to distinguish herself in a competitive primary. Sherrill is a former Navy helicopter pilot and has served in Congress since 2019.

On the other hand, Ciattarelli, a businessman and state legislator who won the Republican nomination after defeating four opponents, previously ran for governor in 2021 but was unsuccessful.
