On Sunday, St. Charles Police Department (SCPD) officers shot and killed a shirtless, chainsaw-wielding man who was threatening an assisted living center.
Witnesses reported the suspect was attempting to cut down a tree on the property of River Glen of St. Charles, an assisted living center in Illinois, and entered the lobby shortly before police arrived on the scene. That is. said In a press release.

Arriving officers taped up the suspect after he attempted to “use a chainsaw on the occupants of the building,” the statement said. The attacks reportedly continued after the taping, forcing one of the officers to shoot the suspect.

“This is our neighborhood, so it's very scary,” local resident Tom Lapis told the magazine. “Oh my god. It's so scary because it's such a quiet area. I see so many people going up and down. Boy, that's shocking.”
“Yeah, we were worried. It's scary… it's scary,” said Lori Lapis, another local. “I know how vulnerable these people are and what they are going through.”
SCPD told news outlets that some residents and officers were treated for minor injuries.
Police asked residents to avoid the area where the incident occurred until the investigation is complete, the newspaper said.
