Anti-Iran War Protest in Philadelphia Draws Controversy
Video footage from a protest in Philadelphia, dubbed “Hands Off Iran,” has stirred outrage as it showed demonstrators openly expressing support for various terrorist organizations. They cheered each time an American service member was mentioned in connection with death, specifically calling for applause whenever a soldier returned “in a coffin.”
At the event, participants held placards condemning the war and targeting figures like Israel, former President Donald Trump, and even Democratic Senator John Fetterman. A speaker, whose remarks became viral, praised groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, emphasizing the need for a robust Iranian state to bolster their capabilities against Israel.
Captured by Philadelphia-based activist Frankie Scales, the video featured a masked speaker who celebrated American casualties, urging the country to “bring itself to its knees,” which spurred enthusiastic responses from the crowd.
As of now, seven American service members have lost their lives during Operation Epic Fury, while an additional six perished in a crash involving an Air Force refueling plane assisting the operation.
The speaker urged, “Let us not lose sight of our enemy until we do everything in our power to bring America to its knees… We cheer for every American military base that falls and for every soldier who returns home in a coffin.” He also expressed support for various resistance groups engaged in conflicts against Zionism, advocating for a strong Iran to support these efforts.
In a tense exchange recorded on the video, the videographer confronted the speaker, asking, “Do you hate America?” to which the speaker reacted vehemently.
Senator Fetterman voiced his concern over the incident, joining many others in condemning the rhetoric displayed during the protest. He remarked, “Here in Philadelphia, it’s really scary. These people are calling for the death of our military. Where is the anger and condemnation from the Democratic Party?”
In related developments, President Trump announced military actions launched against Iran on February 28, following the collapse of negotiations about Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East mentioned on Fox News that Iranian officials have proclaimed intentions to continue enriching uranium, claiming they possess enough material for numerous “dirty” bombs.
On March 14, Hamas released a statement criticizing Iran for its missile and drone strikes against other Arab nations in the region. The organization emphasized Iran’s right to defend itself but urged restraint in targeting neighboring countries.
