Shohei Ohtani and his agent face lawsuit for reportedly undermining a $240 million real estate venture in Hawaii.

Ohtani and Agent Sued Over Hawaiian Real Estate Deal

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and his agent, Nez Valero, are facing a lawsuit from real estate developers and brokers who claim their participation in a $240 million Hawaiian real estate transaction was obstructed. This information comes from the Associated Press.

Developer Kevin J. Hayes Sr. and real estate broker Matsumotoya say they were pushed out of the deal due to the increasing demands made by Ohtani and Valero.

The dispute centers around a property at Ohtani’s Mauna Kea Resort, which was set to feature 14 homes, one of which Ohtani intended to purchase for himself. The investment materials suggested that Ohtani would spend significant off-season time at the site and planned to create a training facility there, according to the report.

However, tensions reportedly escalated after Ohtani signed his contract. Hayes and Matsumoto allege in the lawsuit that Valero is poised to become a “destructive force,” seeking to eliminate them from the deal through what they describe as “threatening and baseless legal claims.”

To support their case, Hayes and Matsumoto reference incidents involving Kingsburn Realty Capital, a partner in the deal. According to the lawsuit, employees from Kingsburn indicated that Valero was trying to remove Hayes and Matsumoto from the agreement.

The lawsuit claims, “Kingsburn openly acknowledged that during the call, Valero insisted they would have to terminate their involvement to accommodate him.” It goes on to state that the plaintiffs could suffer significant financial losses from anticipated construction benefits and related compensation.

Notably, Ohtani, a remarkable talent from Japan, made his MLB debut in 2018 with the Los Angeles Angels and played a crucial role in securing a World Series Championship for the Dodgers in his first year with the team.
