Shooter in Rhode Island Identified as Divorced Transgender with Unusual Online Presence

Transgender Gunman Leaves Warning Before Shooting

On Monday, a transgender individual identified as the gunman who shot and killed at least two family members at a hockey game in Rhode Island, left behind a chilling social media post. In it, he suggested that people grappling with gender identity, like himself, might eventually resort to violence.

The shooter, known as Robert Dougan—who referred to himself as “Roberta”—opened fire at a game held at a Pawtucket High School before taking his own life. Various reports suggest Dougan had expressed troubling views online, including an apparent attraction to racist ideologies, and mixed feelings about society’s treatment of transgender individuals.

Reports indicate Dougan’s family struggled with ongoing conflicts related to his gender identity. His ex-wife linked their divorce in 2021 to his gender reassignment surgery and personality issues. It’s a complex situation, filled with tensions that perhaps only those close to him could fully understand.

In a post made just a day before the shooting, Dougan reacted to a comment about Delaware Democratic Representative Sarah McBride, saying, “Keep bashing us. But no wonder why we become Berserk.”

In addition to the fatalities, at least three others sustained injuries during the attack, authorities reported.

Leading up to the incident, Dougan appeared to support controversial figures like Nick Fuentes, even describing him in a way that suggests admiration. He had also engaged with content that featured Nazi imagery, which raises more questions about his ideological stance.

Yet, in an earlier post regarding another shooting involving a transgender individual, Dougan proclaimed his belief that transgender people would protect children. “I will protect my children until my last breath,” he stated, which adds a layer of contradiction to his actions and views.
