The suspect allegedly drove onto the cement median between the service road in the 300 block of Eastern Parkway and the parade route and fired into the crowd.
Other victims included a 69-year-old woman who was hit in the shoulder, a 64-year-old man who was hit in the arm, a 16-year-old male who was shot in the arm and a 36-year-old man who was shot in the head. Thousands of people had gathered along the parade route for the festival, which celebrates “Caribbean traditions and culture,” when a lone gunman opened fire at about 2:35 p.m.
NYPD Sergeant John Chell said the shooting was not random.
“This was an intentional act by one individual against a group of people,” Chell said at a news conference Monday.

“At this very moment, there is absolutely no indication of an active shooter or anything of that nature in the area of Eastern Parkway. The parade will continue until later this evening.”

“We need that video,” Chell said. “We're going to get this resolved, but it's going to be a lot of work.”
The 57th annual Labor Day parade transforms Eastern Parkway into a kaleidoscope of feather-covered costumes and colorful flags as participants pass by floats stacked high with speakers blasting soca and reggae music. Many Caribbean immigrants settled in Brooklyn in the past.
Though typically a joyous event, the parade and related celebrations have been plagued by violence over the years.
In 2016, two people were killed and several others injured along the parade route. The year before, Kayleigh Gabbay, an aide to then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, was shot in the head during pre-parade celebrations and died nine days later.
