Tragic Shooting at Brown University Claims Two Lives

One of the individuals who lost their life during a shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, was identified as Ella Cook, a 19-year-old sophomore. She was known for her faith and served as the vice president for the College Republicans chapter at the university.

In a statement made on social media, the American College Republicans expressed their shock at the news of her passing, describing Cook as someone who was courageous and kind-hearted. They emphasized her dedication to both her chapter and her fellow students.

“Our prayers go out to her family, our Brown CR, and the entire campus as they deal with this tragedy,” the statement continued.

Caroline Levitt, the White House press secretary, shared her condolences online, reflecting on the deep impact of Ella’s loss on her friends and family, especially her parents.

Reports indicate that Ella was originally from Birmingham, Alabama, and was a member of the Cathedral Church of Advent. A priest from her church spoke during the Sunday service, acknowledging the tragedy that unfolded at Brown and highlighting Cook as a cherished member of their community.

He noted, with sadness, that “one of our parishioners, Ella Cook,” had been among the victims, describing her as a bright light who was both generous and faithful in her devotion.

Alabama’s Governor Will Ainsworth commented on the situation, recognizing her as a devoted Christian and a strong conservative, calling her a representation of the best qualities from Alabama. He expressed his sorrow over the loss of her promising future and urged others to join him in prayer for her family.

Ella was expected to graduate from Brown in 2028. Her legacy, as noted by many, is marked by community service and genuine kindness.

The shooting incident took place when the gunman reportedly shouted before opening fire in the campus engineering building, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals and leaving several others injured.

Another victim of the attack has been identified as Muhammad Aziz Umruzokov, a recent high school graduate from Virginia who had aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and was set to graduate from Brown in 2029.

As authorities continue their investigation, a person initially held as a suspect was scheduled to be released on Sunday night. Brown University has decided to cancel classes for the remainder of the fall semester as the community mourns and seeks healing.

At this time, the shooter remains at large, with ongoing efforts to piece together the events of that day based on information gathered by various agencies.
