Controversy Surrounds Graham Platner’s Senate Campaign
Graham Platner, leading in the race for the Democratic nomination for a Senate seat in Maine, is facing increasing scrutiny.
This past Monday, the hosts of “The View” expressed strong disapproval of Platner’s candidacy. They emphasized that given his involvement in numerous scandals, he should definitely not be in close proximity to Congress.
“You displayed exactly who you are, and I heard you loud and clear. This man has no business being near Congress,” one host remarked.
Recently disclosed information about Platner—who is married—revealed that he sent sexually explicit messages to at least six women. This adds to the mounting woes of his campaign.
“Right after he apologized for his Nazi-themed tattoos, he made an offensive comment about a wounded U.S. soldier. Now, his wife, Amy Gartner, has come forward, stating she warned the campaign about her husband’s inappropriate texts to multiple women,” said Whoopi Goldberg.
Ana Navarro chimed in, stating, “It’s shocking and concerning. Why can’t we aspire to have better candidates?”
Former Trump staffer Alyssa Farrar Griffin commented, “He just doesn’t seem to have a great character.”
“Don’t get too invested in a situation that could lead to ongoing headaches,” advised Sarah Haines. She also highlighted that Platner had made comments suggesting U.S. soldiers should have died on the battlefield.
Sunny Hostin criticized Platner’s character further, asserting that he is a fraud, anti-Semite, and racist due to his long-standing tattoos and past comments. “Character truly counts,” she emphasized.
While discussing the allegations, Hostin dismissed Platner’s excuse that his comments stemmed from PTSD related to his service as a Marine. “I know many veterans who have PTSD, yet they aren’t racist,” she pointed out.
Despite the criticisms, Hostin noted that winning in Maine is crucial for Democrats hoping to regain control of the Senate.
The Maine Republican Party has since shared a clip featuring the harshest criticisms, which circulated widely on social media.
Amid the sexting scandal, Platner’s wife released a video aimed at downplaying the situation, calling it mere “gossip.” However, many viewers expressed discomfort after watching her videos.
Platner stands as the expected Democratic nominee against incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins, who herself is viewed critically by many in her party for being a moderate. Platner’s main rival, Governor Janet Mills, had suspended her campaign in late April.
