Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) said Friday on CNN's “News Central” that he is “disgusted” that former President Donald Trump is “throwing cold water” on a border security agreement among lawmakers. “There is,” he said.
President Trump said on Truth Social: “I just don't think we should have a border agreement unless we have everything we need to stop an invasion…And also, our wonderful Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson. There is no doubt in my mind that I have said this: We will only conduct perfect transactions at our borders.”
Manchin said, “I've never been more worried about my country than I am today. I see what direction we're going in, I see what's going on, and it's becoming more harmful by the day.” Look at what's happening now with this border decision. The Democrats and Republicans in the Senate are working very hard and very diligently, and the deal is very close to being completed.”
He continued, “Now all of a sudden people are throwing cold water on politics. This is disgusting. The most dangerous thing we have is the current state of border security and border security. It's a failure. So we can fix it. But if former President Trump is saying it can't be done, then let's blame the Democrats.”
Manchin added, “Politics doesn't solve problems. That's not who we are as a country. That's not what our purpose is all about in Washington. People are tired of it. .”
