Child Abuse Arrests in North Carolina

A man and woman were arrested in North Carolina on child abuse charges after six children were rescued from what authorities described as a “filthy” home. The suspects, Lacey Douglas Hocutt Jr., 34, and Lacery Marie Galasso, 33, were taken into custody on Wednesday and face multiple charges, including abuse and neglect, as reported by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.

In their first court appearance on Thursday, prosecutors remarked that the abuse discovered was among the most severe they’d encountered. According to reports, six children, ages ranging from 1 to 15, were removed from the residence in February; each exhibited serious health problems.

Prosecutors noted that some of the children had undergone dental procedures that left them unable to eat without pain. Court documents alleged that one of the children, a 13-year-old boy, had been kept in a dog kennel and was dangerously underweight.

“He’s now rocking back and forth and all he’s screaming is, ‘You’re never going to get out, you’re never going to get out,'” an assistant district attorney recounted, addressing the judge about the psychological trauma the child likely faced.

Another child’s untreated scoliosis means he will have to live with the condition for life. The conditions of the home were described as appallingly dirty, with investigators requiring protective gear upon their arrival.

Furthermore, none of the children could read or write, suggesting they had not been attending school. Both Hocutt and Galasso are currently held without bail, with a court date set for April 23.
