Six Secret Service Agents Placed on Leave for Behavior During Trump Assassination Attempt

US Secret Service Agents Suspended Following Assassination Attempt on Trump

Reports indicate that up to six agents from the US Secret Service faced suspension due to their actions during an assassination attempt on former President Trump.

Officials from the Secret Service have confirmed these suspensions. It was just four days shy of the anniversary of the incident when, on July 13, a bullet fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks grazed the president’s ear. While the tragedy claimed the life of firefighter Corey Comperatore, there were others injured in the attack.

In the aftermath, an independent assessment by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) pointed out significant failures on the part of the Secret Service, suggesting that they had made critical errors during the incident.

“The former president’s assassination attempt in July revealed numerous mistakes,” the report stated. Further analysis by DHS noted ongoing systemic issues within the agency, warning that without necessary reforms, similar incidents could recur.

Following the attempt, DHS Director Alejandro Mayorkas established a panel consisting of four former officials from law enforcement and national security to assess what went awry and how the Secret Service could improve in light of the threats faced by former President Trump.

According to a letter included in the report, “The Secret Service is not functioning at the elite level required for such a critical mission.” It expressed concern that, despite evolving risks and advancements in technology, the agency has become overly bureaucratic and stagnant.

Following the shooting, former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cittle resigned just ten days later. Sources have revealed that those suspended ranged from supervisory positions to line agents.
