Discussing the concept of “verbal jihad,” Haniyeh said:The time for Jihad of the Sword has come.”
“This is a fight for Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, not for Palestinians or Gaza or the people of Gaza,” he explained. “The people of Gaza constitute the trenches of our defense and the front line of our attack.”
“They’re not just there to defend, they’re there to attack as well,” he added.
Hamas leaders called the Oct. 7 massacre a Palestinian attack and urged scholars not to “let go” of the moment.
“The time has come. Sons of the Islamic nation, free peoples of the world, historic moments like this rarely come. Do not miss this moment,” he said. “Historic moments like this rarely come for our nation and for Islamic scholars.”
“We must not miss this moment, because if we do, who knows how many decades it may take before this moment comes again,” he added.
“Time is on our side,” Haniyeh said, explaining that initial international pressure from the United States to support the Palestinians had failed.
