Slain Hamas Chief Called to ‘Build Upon’ Oct. 7 ‘Victory,’ Praised Gaza Donations as ‘Financial Jihad’

Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Hamas terrorist organisation who was reported killed early on Wednesday, had called on Muslim leaders around the world to “preserve” the October 7 “victory” and “build on it”.

He also appealed for financial support for Gaza, calling it “financial jihad” and declaring that “the time for jihad of the sword has come.”

The Qatar-based Hamas political bureau chief spoke at the International Union of Islamic Scholars (IUMS) conference in Doha, Qatar, in January. Dealt with The role of Islamic scholars around the world in the wake of the October 7 massacre, the worst attack on Jewish people since the Nazi Holocaust.

In remarks translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), which specializes in media coverage in the region, Haniyeh called on Muslims to support the “resistance”.

” [Islamic] “The state has an important role to play. Our scholars have a vital role in two ways. The first aspect is to support the resistance,” he said. “Brothers and sisters, the whole world is dropping weapons on the occupying forces. The whole world is not afraid of it. There are air bridges, aircraft, etc. from several capitals to reach the occupying forces.”

“This is a personal obligation. [Islamic] “We have an obligation to do that,” he added.

Discussing the concept of “verbal jihad,” Haniyeh said:The time for Jihad of the Sword has come.”

“This is a fight for Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, not for Palestinians or Gaza or the people of Gaza,” he explained. “The people of Gaza constitute the trenches of our defense and the front line of our attack.”

“They’re not just there to defend, they’re there to attack as well,” he added.

Hamas leaders called the Oct. 7 massacre a Palestinian attack and urged scholars not to “let go” of the moment.

“The time has come. Sons of the Islamic nation, free peoples of the world, historic moments like this rarely come. Do not miss this moment,” he said. “Historic moments like this rarely come for our nation and for Islamic scholars.”

“We must not miss this moment, because if we do, who knows how many decades it may take before this moment comes again,” he added.

“Time is on our side,” Haniyeh said, explaining that initial international pressure from the United States to support the Palestinians had failed.

At the beginning of this invasion, America was waving a big stick at the world, even at Palestinian, Arab and Muslim communities in European countries. Palestinian and Arab notables were summoned and told not to raise the Palestinian flag or do anything. But the language of those same countries has now changed. Why did it change? [Palestinian] Firmness, without which the conscience of the world would be shattered.

He then asked for further elaboration of the “victory” of the genocide, which he described as similar to brutal scenes from the Nazi-era Holocaust.

“Brothers, we must build on this foundation of indomitable spirit,” he said. “We must hold fast to the victory achieved on October 7 and build on it.”

Haniyeh also urged the scholars to focus on the Palestinian issue, prevent “aggression” against Gaza, and form a delegation for both regional action and international diplomacy.

Islamic scholars can form groups and delegations at various levels. These delegations meet with government officials, political parties, civil society, institutions, etc. in the countries they live in and perform duties in their own countries. They can even lead mass movements. [in protests]. The first one, [we should] A special delegation should be formed to meet with Arab, Islamic and even Western leaders, to visit each country and discuss Palestine, Jerusalem and Gaza, and the need to end the aggression in the Gaza Strip.

lastly, billionaire Hamas leaders are calling for donations for their operation, which they call “financial jihad.”

“This is not just a humanitarian issue, even though it is extremely important and Gaza needs all the help it can get. This is financial jihad,” he declared. “This principle of Islamic law, the concept of waging jihad with your life and with your money, should be reinstated in our Islamic countries.”
