A small Hawaiian airline was forced to ground some of its planes over the weekend after a routine maintenance check revealed a flaw in the landing gear of one of its planes.
In a letter to customers on Saturday, Mokulele Airlines said the suspension of flights would begin on Aug. 17 and continue until at least Aug. 20 as it responds to the findings of the investigation.
“During our routine maintenance procedures, we discovered a possible discrepancy in the records regarding recent landing gear maintenance on one of our aircraft. As a precautionary measure to maintain our rigorous safety standards, we have decided to temporarily keep the affected aircraft in Hawaii while we conduct a thorough inspection,” the airline’s letter read in part.
Mokulele Airlines operates interisland and charter flights to nine airports throughout Hawaii.
