Francesca Hong’s Wisconsin Primary Challenge
Francesca Hong, a state representative with a democratic socialist stance, recently made waves during the primary election in Wisconsin, taking place at the governor’s mansion. Known for her sharp criticism of traditional American values, she’s become a figure of controversy.
Some recent polls indicated that Hong, who has made headlines for her radical views—such as opposing a bill to criminalize child sexual grooming and advocating for the abolition of various governmental entities—might have a strong shot at defeating the establishment candidate, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.
However, the results on election night were not what she hoped for. Crowley narrowly defeated Hong, pulling in 39.8% of the vote compared to her 39.4%, as reported by the Associated Press.
The counting process faced delays due to a technical issue—Milwaukee city officials reportedly encountered problems while downloading the results, a situation that was clarified later by Milwaukee Elections Commissioner Paulina Gutierrez. At a late-night press conference, she explained she discovered that several USB drives had mistakenly been loaded with the wrong data.
Gutierrez stated, “This is human error. These things can happen.” Election officials resolved to go back to their operations hub and re-download the necessary voting results.
In the end, Crowley’s lead in Milwaukee County stood at 65,131 votes against Hong’s 62,739. Democratic Governor Tony Evers threw his support behind Crowley, remarking, “We have earned this victory.”
Crowley’s campaign manager, Galen Randolph, expressed gratitude that Hong contributed to the conversation around his “Vision for Wisconsin,” framing the future as one focused on collaboration across party lines.
