Socialist magazine gets obliterated by the ‘Hiroshima of community notes’ after trying to criticize capitalism

Socialist magazine Jacobin has been slammed by critics on social media for what they called a “Hiroshima” community note on X.

Jacobin’s official account criticized the wages paid to Walmart employees, but someone did the math and found that the average pay for the magazine’s writers was likely much lower.

“Walmart, notorious for its starvation wages, just posted staggering profits for the first quarter. The surge is the result of the company’s strategic shift to cater to wealthier shoppers while its full-time employees continue to rely on Medicaid and food stamps,” wrote the poster. The community note on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, quickly went viral.

“The average hourly wage for Walmart Unincorporated Associates is $17.50 per hour with full-time benefits. Jacobin pays its writers $0.07 per word. Therefore, Jacobin writers earn the same wage as Walmart Associates. You must continue to write 250 words per hour to earn . But there are no benefits,” the memo said.

Other users of X criticized the low wages paid by the Jacobins.

“The great thing about this community note is that it’s not saying Walmart is good. The point is, if you think it’s true that Walmart pays its employees poorly, Jacobin pays its writers even worse.” Said Another critic.

Even Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas mocked Jacobin over the memo.
