Soldier from Fort Bliss taken into custody for espionage after trying to provide Russia with secret U.S. military information

Soldier Arrested for Attempting to Share Sensitive Defense Information

A soldier from Fort Bliss has been arrested on serious charges, including trying to transmit defense information to foreign adversaries. Taylor Adam Lee, a 22-year-old active duty member, faces allegations of illegally exporting controlled technical data.

The U.S. Attorney’s office released a statement outlining the accusations against Lee. It states that from around May 2025, he allegedly sought to send U.S. Army-related information to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Reports suggest that in June 2025, Lee shared technical details about export controls connected to the M1A2 Abrams Tank with individuals associated with the Russian Federation.

Interestingly, it appears that Lee expressed dissatisfaction with the U.S., stating in a message, “the US is not satisfied with me for trying to expose their weaknesses,” while simultaneously volunteering assistance to the Russian cause.

In July, it seems Lee met with people who believed he was representing the Russian government. During one such meeting, he reportedly handed over an SD card and discussed its contents, which included sensitive details about U.S. armored combat vehicles.

Furthermore, he allegedly provided various documents that contained controlled technical data he was not authorized to disclose. There were discussions about obtaining certain hardware related to the M1A2 Abrams tank for the Russian government. On July 31, 2025, he apparently delivered hardware to a storage unit in El Paso.

Lee’s arrest took place Wednesday, and he made a court appearance the same day. Brigadier General Sean F. Stinchon commented on the situation, emphasizing the serious risks facing the U.S. military and expressing gratitude for the efforts of the investigative teams.

In addition, Justin R. Simmons, a lawyer for the Western Texas region, stressed the importance of national security and the commitment to prosecute those who attempt to aid enemies of the United States. He acknowledged the collaborative work of the FBI and military personnel in addressing this issue.

This incident serves as a wake-up call regarding the potential threats to military integrity and national safety.
