On Monday, the son of a prominent Dominican politician was shot to death at a gas station in Houston, and police said they were searching for three suspects.
Houston police identified the victim as Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, 34, the son of Alfredo Pacheco, speaker of the Dominican House of Representatives.
“We spoke with Mr. Pacheco about his son’s death and advised detectives to continue their efforts to determine a motive for the shooting,” HPD said in a statement.
According to reports, Rojas worked in the Houston music industry and went by the name “El Picante.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to the Dominican Republic Embassy for comment.
The victim, Rojas, 29, and two other men left a gas station in the 2400 block of South Wayside Drive around 7:25 p.m. and got into a black SUV.
At the same time, a Dodge Charger and a Mercedes-Benz approached the SUV.
Two men got out of the Dodger and one got out of the Mercedes.
All three men fired shots at the SUV and fled the scene, police said.
Rojas was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The other victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
“It is with great regret that we announce the unexpected death of our son Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, who lived abroad,” Alfredo Pacheco posted on X on Tuesday.
“This fact is currently under investigation. We would like to sincerely thank our friends and colleagues for their solidarity during this difficult time.”
Detectives released surveillance footage of the three suspects they were searching for.
The two were seen holding what appeared to be firearms.
